Paradise is a Beautiful Song

giphyUnfortunately the summer is coming to an end and it’s almost time to be a responsible adult again. And by responsible adult I mean drink less. But in honor of this summer coming to an end, I present to you my summer masterpiece- Paradise is a Beautiful Song. Bare in mind I’m using the term masterpiece loosely. The poem is a sort of summer meditation, because the best things in life don’t last forever. So grab a pale lager, throw on some dub, and peep this shit-

Paradise is a Beautiful Song

I had to find myself on some destiny island on some palm tree beach,
Looking at the ocean Jah promised me,
Looking out at noumenon,
O, my mind as vast as the sky-

Like reggae Rastafari,
Legato ska,
Float on the ocean looking up at Zion sky,
bob in waves and
bob in waves and
how it feels like salt water,
Lush flush and nourish,
The ocean is a hammock.

And I open my eyes on some ethereal beach and the sun tastes like dusk
in the summer
someone that I’ll meet one day and hold onto
and their silhouette next to mine against dusk
hues of orange and blue and me and you on my shoulder
and I can look in you and see the sky
and stick out my tongue and taste the sun.

And Calypso and I spend time together,
Sand flows through my fingers and
my toes on white sand sandbar,
Time passes,
Tides change,
And I think about the moon,
Sparkles of celestial impressions,
And like that lunar lust I lose myself.

But then my mind squints at the time
slipping through my fingers.
And the crisp sea breeze arouses me,
Mercury hues of neon blue break obsidian abyss,
Rocksteady rhythms crescendo on the back of some comodo tortoise,
And I am released.

In that moment, I feel renewed.
That psychedelic sky converges,
And I open my eyes,
I open my eyes and I find myself-
I find myself on some destiny beach.
